Trauma Treatment
Trauma, addiction, and other maladaptive ways of coping with pain are highly correlated. As a result, treating the underlying trauma is central to the help I provide. The tools for treating trauma include psychoeducation, mindfulness, and repair of attachment trauma. Other tools I use are as follows:
I am trained in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, an evidence based process which treats nervous system activation caused by traumatic events.
Polyvagal Informed Trauma Therapy
I am trained in the use of Polyvagal Theory in the practice of understanding and regulating our autonomic nervous system that becomes persistenly dysregulated with the experience of trauma.
Trauma can cause persistent changes to the autonomic nervous system resulting in constant activation in survival states leading to possible difficulty with anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation, as well other issues. By listening to the specially filtered music of the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) supported by a therapeutic relationship, the nervous system be retuned to a state of greater calm resulting in better relationships, being comfortable in one's own skin, and better overall life functioning.
Post Induction Therapy (PIT) is a model for identifying issues created in early family of origin trauma resulting in a way of relating to other that is called codependency. This was developed by Pia Melody at the Meadows. It understands how that trauma impairs a sense of self, affects boundaries, distorts a sense of one's own reality, a willingness to be interdependent with others, and living a life of moderation. The five core issues and related issues are described in the Model of Developmental Immaturity. Resolving codependency works restore your sense of self and create healthy boundaries fostering healthier relationships. All of this contributes to less of a need unhealthy ways of managing one's life.
